Job Description

Job Title: ESL teacher to teach evening TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language Class).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and present lessons designed to prepare students for the TOEFL exam.
  • Prepare a course outline and syllabus stating the class goals, course content, classroom policies and procedures and methods of evaluation.
  • Post weekly class objectives and agenda.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and materials that are appropriate to the course and accommodate all learning styles.
  • Maintain current and accurate records of student attendance.
  • Demonstrate and promote punctuality.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Use approved textbooks and adhere to program policies and procedures Other Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Current knowledge of the TOEFL exam and effective test preparation strategies including the use of technology.
  • Implement practices that build students’ reading, listening, speaking and writing skills sufficiently to pass the test.
  • Arrange for a substitute teacher or make-up class if absent.
  • Prepare and update lesson plans and materials for substitute teachers.

Qualifications:

  • Adult Teaching Credential and TESL/TEFL certificate required.
  • MA in TESOL or Linguistics preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year classroom teaching experience, preferably at the advanced level.
  • Solid knowledge of TOEFL exam and test-taking techniques.
  • Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday evenings 6:30 – 9:30 pm. (3 hours per week)
